Man makes guitar out of 1,200 colored pencils
Talk about a truly colorful instrument. One inventive YouTube user has shared their journey in building an electric guitar out of 1,200 colored pencils. Watch it below!
That’s right, the vlogger going by the name of Burls Art constructed what looks like an actual Fender Stratocaster out of a whopping gob of the probable favorite writing instrument of grammar school art class. And it actually works!

Of course, electric guitar bodies are usually made from a hardwood like alder, not colored pencils. And, to be sure, this YouTuber can’t really promote his new axe as a Strat without the likelihood of hearing from some Fender lawyers.
But the impressive do-it-yourself clip was dug up by Gear Gods and shared by MetalSucks, and the guitar’s builder also documented the entire project in an Imgur album. As for the inspiration behind the colorfully unique instrument, the handy musician cites Brazilian-born guitarist Mateus Asato as a major influence on his non-carpentry-related artistry.
“I build an electric guitar, Fender Stratocaster, out of 1200 colored pencils,” reads the YouTube vid’s description. “Please subscribe if you’d like to see more! Song I played at the end is a small section of a version of ‘To God Be The Glory’ that Mateus Asato plays, he calls ‘My Tribute.’ He is one of my biggest inspirations in terms of playing style.”
It appears the dexterous YouTube instrumentalist only has one other video on their channel. And, in the fabrication clip, the builder’s casual mention of having never built an instrument before adds some humorous color to the occasion.
