Over the past few weeks, Halsey has been seen at various protests advocating for Black Lives Matter and demanding change in America. Along with this, she has been using her social media platforms to spread awareness and information regarding the movement.
Now, Halsey is launching The Black Creators Funding Initiative, a fund that is amplifying and promoting black creators’ art and voices. The initiative is giving resources to artists and funding various projects within the creative field.
On June 11, Halsey took to social media to announce the Black Creators Funding Initiative. Through this initiative, Halsey is creating a platform for black creators to share their art, use their voices and tell their personal stories and perspectives.
“I am launching this to give funds, resources, and a platform to black creators,” Halsey says. “Looking for black creators who want to enrich the world with their work.”
Halsey and her team are looking to support black creators of any kind with this initiative. By launching this fund, the Halsey team hopes more black creators will be able to reach new audiences and opportunities.
“We are launching a fund to help black creators and amplify their art, voices and perspective,” the statement reads. “This ongoing initiative will be entirely funded by the Halsey team. if you’re an artist, poet, graphic designer, writer, filmmaker, music producer, journalist, makeup artist or creator of any kind, we want to see our work and want to help you achieve your goals.”
As well, Halsey will use her social media platforms to promote the creators involved in the initiative. At this time, Halsey has over 20 million Instagram followers, nearly 13 million Twitter followers and over 2.7 million likes on Facebook.
“In addition to funds, the artists will be promoted on my socials to help launch their platforms,” the statement continues. “And we will help provide resources, information and points of contact, for as many people as we can.”
In the comments section, Halsey is encouraging individuals to tag their favorite black creators with the hashtag #BLACKCREATORSFUND. On Instagram alone, over a thousand posts have been tagged with the hashtag. BCFI is announcing the first round of recipients on June 18.
“We will be announcing the first gifting recipients on June 18th,” the statement says. “We hope to continue this initiative throughout the years to come.”
Both Halsey and YUNGBLUD have been at the frontlines of some of the protests over the wrongful killing of George Floyd. Many fans have seen her treating other protesters who were injured by rubber bullets and teargas.
On June 1, the singer shared photos and videos from one of the California protests on Instagram.
“It’s become very clear to me that some of you need to see what I’ve seen,” she writes. “Please swipe through this. These pictures and videos don’t even scratch the surface. It’s easy from the comfort of your home to watch looting and rioting on television and condone the violent measures being taken by forces. But what you don’t see is innocent peaceful protestors being shot at and tear-gassed and physically assaulted relentlessly. You think it’s not happening, it’s only the ‘thugs’ and the ‘riots,’ right? The police are keeping you safe right? You’re wrong. This is happening everywhere. And innocent people exercising their rights to speech and assembly are facing violence and abuse of power.”

It’s become very clear to me that some of you need to see what I’ve seen. Please swipe through this. These pictures and videos don’t even scratch the surface. It’s easy from the comfort of your home to watch looting and rioting on television and condone the violent measures being taken by forces. But what you don’t see is innocent peaceful protestors being shot at and tear gassed and physically assaulted relentlessly. You think it’s not happening, it’s only the “thugs” and the “riots”, right? The police are keeping you safe right? You’re wrong. This is happening everywhere. And innocent people exercising their rights to speech and assembly are facing violence and abuse of power. With all of our medical professionals being CONSUMED and EXHAUSTED with Covid, there is little to no medical attention available. I have first hand treated men women and children who have been shot in the chest, the face, the back. Some will lose vision some have lost fingers. I have been covered in innocent blood. My father is a black man. My mother is an EMT. This week I had to put those two associations together in ways that have horrified me. This is NOT a virtue signaling post. But I HAVE to show you what I am witnessing with my own eyes. With Trump’s decision today to enforce the mobilization of armed forces on our own citizens, this has escalated beyond your privilege and comfort to not care. Please care. We are begging you to care. This is war on Americans. This is everyone’s problem. Everyone’s. #BLACKLIVESMATTER
