Halsey and Pete Wentz bond over this classic lyric on Instagram

At this point, it’s no surprise Halsey loves the scene.

She’s tight with Twenty One Pilots, having performed with the duo in 2015, and drummer Josh Dun later returned the favor. She hangs out with State Champs and goes to see Mayday Parade. She even performed with Panic! At The Disco and questioned Brendon Urie on his own lyrical masterpieces.

Most notably, the electro-pop singer shouted out
a blink-182 track in her mega hit with the Chainsmokers. Basically, she’s an emo legend if we ever saw one.

Which brings us to now, where Halsey shared a sweet photo pushing a friend on a swing with the caption “Swing life away.”

Like us, Pete Wentz instantly thought of the classic Rise Against track of the same name taken from their 2004 album Siren Song Of The Counter Culture. The Fall Out Boy bassist chimed in, stating “That song is a jam.”

Fall Out Boy are set to hit the road for a massive tour with support from Machine Gun Kelly, Gym Class Heroes, Every Time I Die, Against The Current, State Champs, L.I.F.T and nothing, nowhere. later this month. The Chicagoans are also playing a special show at Wrigley Field in September with support from Rise Against and MGK.

Despite her obvious love for the genre, Halsey recently had to defend her emo past. The singer took to Twitter to share her look from the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, a black dress with red eyeshadow, titling it “my-chemical-romance-Helena.mp3.”

A user accused her of “appropriating emo culture” to which quickly she responded.

“I grew up ritualistically attending warped tour and lurking livejournal,” she says. “Then I became a musician and met all my emo faves. Proud emo and will never deny it. Those bands shaped every bit of me!!!!!!!!! Just like you!”
