Now, the alt-pop singer is going country with her latest release “You Should Be Sad.”
Halsey revealed on Twitter that the track was inspired by some of her favorite female artists. She also says she wanted to do something like Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.”
Xtina, Gaga, Carrie, and of course Shania, this was one loaded with nods to badass idols of mine. Had the vision to do a “before he cheats” but instead about after he does haha.

The singer revealed other tributes from the music video from Lady Gaga to Shania Twain.
It actually is a Gaga reference! But it’s not that one specifically. It’s me referencing Gaga who was referencing Bianca Jagger in AHS Hotel ? https://t.co/Eh6e8tULXS

The singer also said Manic will include a wide range of sounds because the LP “changes it’s mind” just as much as she does.
every song has its own identity! I’ve always said “the album changes its mind as often as I do.” https://t.co/4CNyBpYnrB
