The singer received the award for outstanding music artist. While she didn't attend the award show, she took to Twitter to accept the award and share a heartfelt message thanking GLAAD for recognizing her as a powerful spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.
In the video, she explains that she has spent the past couple of years trying to be a better representative for the LGBTQ community, and in doing so, she has spent some time trying to come to terms with being a bisexual woman, saying:
“I am a young bi-sexual woman and I have spent a large part of my life trying validate myself to my friends, to my family, to myself,” she says in her video. “Trying to prove that who I love and the way that I feel is not a phase, it’s not part of some confusion that’s going to change or could be manipulated. So I tried really hard to find the courage this year to write female pronouns into my music.”
The singer also took a brief moment to talk about the growing problem of homeless youth, citing a statistic that 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. She then encourage people to take a look into their local homeless youth services to see if there is anything targeted to LGBTQ youth.
She ends her video on a touching note: “Thank you for giving me the strength and courage every day to be myself. I can only hope that I do the same for you.”

The singer has been keeping busy both inside and outside of music (we're still stoked on that YSL collab), and Halsey explained that there are more tours, music videos and “a whole lot of other shit” in the books.
We thought 2017 was Halsey's year, and it looks like 2018 is shaping up to be just as incredible.
