Disney seems to be all about the live-action films these days, with Cruella joining the likes of forthcoming films Aladdin, The Lion King and Mulan.

According to comicbook.com, the film will follow “a young Cruella de Vil (Emma Stone) in her time before she sought out a coat made of black and white puppies.”

While Thompson’s role is being kept under wraps, previous reports suggest she could play the film’s antagonist, Baroness.

Harry Potter fans will recall Thompson as Professor Sybill Trelawney in the franchise series, while Disney fans may note her voice-acting in the live-action Beauty and the Beast film as our beloved Mrs. Potts.

The film is being directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) with the most recent draft of the script being written by The Favourite‘s Tony McNamara.

Disney recently revealed the film would be released Dec. 23, 2020.
