On her birthday, Williams posted a note on her Twitter account showing some details about the new music. She also said fans would something new in January.

“I’m putting out some music next year. With the help of some of my closest friends, I made something I’m going to call my own. It’s a really special project and you’ll get a taste of it in January. Happy New Year, friends. Hayley Williams.”

On Jan. 6 clues of Petals For Armor surfaced on Instagram and city streets with a release date for sometime this month.

The vocalist posted three mysterious black squares on Instagram overnight sparking theories that the music will soon be here, and now she’s released the first look at what’s to come. Fans also spotted a poster of Williams and the phrase “Petals For Armor” around the U.S. including New York City and her Nashville hometown.

The singer added another clue that day teasing what could possibly be a line from her upcoming solo project.

Williams continued the trend of black boxes teasers by sharing one to her Instagram story.

Once clicking through to the post, fans are taken to the  Petals For Armor Instagram page that posted its first Instagram story mostly consisting of posters and fan reactions. While not confirmed by the vocalist herself, fans have been theorizing this will be the name of the new project.

Unlike the past black box teasers, that one includes a caption: “how to draw the line between wrath and mercy.”

She also posted a video clip with the date Jan. 22 appearing at the end.

Now, Williams posted another teaser for the project. She took to Twitter to share a video much like the one she dropped before, except this one has a red cast over it.

The video is also the only thing featured on the Petals For Armor website.

As the teased date draws closer, fans can’t contain their excitement, but also a little freaked out by the imagery.
