If you’ve been following along, the new television series is cut from the same cloth as The CW’s Riverdale. The show is based on Archie Comics’ character Sabrina Spellman takes a turn for the dark compared to the colorful ’90s sitcom version starring Melissa Joan Hart as the titular teenage witch.

Sabrina has Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka in the title role, along with Disney star Ross Lynch as the male lead. Wonder Woman’s Lucy Davis and Lord Of The Rings alum Miranda Otto play the beloved Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda, respectively.

Buzzfeed shared descriptions of the major characters of the show, according to information released by Netflix.

Check out the major characters

Sabrina Spellman (Shipka) is “an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch.” She’s “beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life.”

Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey Kinkle (Lynch) is the “prince charming of this dark fairy tale, Harvey is the son of a coal miner, a dreamboat, and a dreamer, completely unaware of the dark forces conspiring to keep him and Sabrina apart.”

Sabrina’s family

Sabrina’s aunts are Hilda Spellman (Davis) and Zelda Spellman (Otto). Hilda has a “motherly nature and warm sense of humor belie a wicked, ghoulish streak,” who’s “as adept at brewing spite jars against her family’s enemies as she is at concocting love potions for the students at Baxter High.”

Zelda, on the other hand, “believes there is no greater honor than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night” and “is the family’s disciplinarian, fiercely protective of Sabrina, and very much Cain to Hilda’s Abel.”

Completing Sabrina’s family is Ambrose Spellman (Chance Perdomo), a “witty, puckish, and pan-sexual” cousin from England, one of the main character’s partners in crime.

Sabrina’s friends

The witch’s friends are Rosalind Walker (Jaz Sinclair), Susie Putnam (Lachlan Watson), and Nicholas Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood). The former is “the brash, empowered, and outspoken daughter of Greendale’s minister and Sabrina’s best friend at Baxter High,” while the latter is “a young, handsome warlock at the Academy of Unseen Arts who befriends Sabrina,” and is immediately drawn to her.

Susie is another one of Sabrina’s friends and a member of the school’s WICCA club. According to Buzzfeed, she’s “brave and optimistic despite being bullied at school” and “lives on a farm at the outskirts of town and deals with a terrifying supernatural threat at home.”

Plus, there are The Weird Sisters (Agatha,  Prudence and Dorcas, played by Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle, and Abigail Cowen). They are “a trio of powerful, uncanny teenage witches at the Academy of Unseen Arts who look down their noses at Sabrina for being half-mortal.”
