Here's when Slipknot are thinking about releasing their next album

Although it’s been just over a year since Slipknot released their last full-length album, it looks like they already have new music on their minds.

Corey Taylor recently revealed when Slipknot are thinking about releasing a follow-up to 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind. Spoiler alert – it may be sooner than you think.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Slipknot were forced to cancel all of their 2020 tour dates including Knotfest. During the newfound time off, however, the band members managed to keep busy.

Back in July, V-Man married Lisa Graham in London. In October, Corey Taylor released his debut solo album CMFT. As well, Slipknot finally settled their ongoing lawsuit with former member Chris Fehn.

Now, it looks like their focus is shifting to their next album and completing those rescheduled tour dates. Taylor recently told the Good Company Show that once the pandemic is over, Slipknot will be back on the road. As well, they are thinking about maybe putting on their next full-length sometime next year.

The plan right now with Slipknot is to try and A) finish up the touring next year, and B) we’re thinking about kind of putting another album out maybe next year,” he says. “But I don’t know. I don’t know what the plan is yet.”

Taylor further shares that Slipknot feel like they can’t fully move forward without completing their tour cycle for We Are Not Your Kind.

I just know that we all kind of feel like there’s unfinished business and we wanna finish that out before we do anything,” he continues. “But I know that we were talking about doing it, ’cause we only have one album left on our contract.”

Last month, Taylor spilled a few details about where Slipknot are at in the process of making new music. While on the That Jamieson Show, the frontman revealed that Shawn M. Crahan has quite a few ideas for Slipknot’s new music.

“We’re obviously thinking about what the next album could be like,” he said. “And he’s [Crahan] in this trippy place, dude, which is rad. I love it when he’s in this crazy mindset, because I know I’m gonna hear stuff that I’ve never heard before. He’s so goddamn creative, and that inspires Jim [Root]. And all the tumblers really start to fall. So it’s pretty rad. I can’t wait.”

With his debut album CMFT finally out and Stone Sour officially on hiatus, it seems as though Taylor is ready to dedicate this time to Slipknot’s new music. However, he did reveal to Kerrang! in August that he has enough solo material to release two more LPs in the future.

“My future’s not set anymore,” he said. “I do know that I’ve got material for two other albums. I’ve been sitting on a lot of stuff for a long, long time, so I’m definitely prepared for it, and I’ve already got it mapped out how I will do it.”

Despite the fact that he has plenty of potential solo material to release, Taylor is determined to bring Slipknot’s live shows to patient fans around the world.

“Once everything starts to fire back up – knock on wood – it’s probably going to be another year of touring with Slipknot, just to cover our bases and make sure we get around the world, and get to the fans,” Taylor said. “And I’m not going to hold that up, because I know the fans have been waiting for a long time for us to get there.”
