Here’s why retailers don't have copies of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Plastic Hearts’
On Nov. 27, Miley Cyrus debuted her highly-anticipated rock-inspired album Plastic Hearts. However, it looks like the album’s release had a major hitch over the weekend.
Many fans failed to secure a physical copy of the album at local retailers or receive one in the mail. Now, Cyrus has revealed why Plastic Hearts was absent from stores’ shelves this weekend.

Plastic Hearts marks a true departure from the Cyrus we heard on her last full-length album Younger Now. The former Disney star traded in her country roots for 80s-inspired synths and rock ‘n’ roll guitars on Plastic Hearts.
As well, Cyrus teamed up with Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol, Dua Lipa and even Joan Jett to help bring Plastic Hearts to life. However, many fans who were eager to get their hands on a copy of the album on Friday were left a little disappointed.
Following its release on Nov. 27, fans who pre-ordered the album received emails that their Plastic Hearts copies wouldn’t arrive for almost a month. As well, others failed to find copies of the record at their local retailers.

On Sunday, Cyrus finally responded to the ongoing problems. In a lengthy statement, she reveals that circumstances amid the coronavirus pandemic and Black Friday greatly impacted the distribution of Plastic Hearts.
“My fans are everything to me and to know y’all are disappointed when going to stores/calling/checking stock to be let down I am equally/if not more frustrated,” she says.
Cyrus goes on to say that there was a lack of transparency regarding the distribution and stocking of Plastic Hearts.
“When choosing 11/27 THE SUGGESTED DATE for album release, my team and I were never told major retailers don’t stock physical albums on Black Friday,” she said. “And wouldn’t get copies of PH until a few weeks after release. The packaging of the record is intimate, honest and a visual reflection of the sound of my new record that I am so proud of. It was created BY ME personally at home making art FOR YOU. I want it in your hands!”

For Plastic Hearts’ artwork, Cyrus teamed up with legendary rock ‘n’ roll photographer Mick Rock. Following the album’s release date, Rock shared an exclusive photo from the shoot.

Despite the distribution setbacks, Cyrus isn’t letting this bump in the road diminish her love for Plastic Hearts.

“I’ve outgrown blame,” Cyrus says. “It’s a waste of time and energy. This album was a labor of love and nothing can sabotage my admiration for the record my collaborations and I have created.”

At this time, it is still unknown when copies of Plastic Hearts will arrive on stores’ shelves. However, by the looks of it, it may take a few weeks for shipments to be delivered.
Last week, Cyrus opened up about Plastic Hearts to Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe in a new tell-all interview. Along with revealing how the 27 Club eventually caused her to get sober, she also shares how the other features on the album came to be.
As well, she confirms that she already has another album in the works. Cyrus previously mentioned that she is working on a Metallica covers album which could be revealed sometime in the future. Metallica are also one of the artists Cyrus credits for influencing Plastic Hearts‘ sound.
