Hundredth, 2016

Hundredth are giving another glimpse at their retooled sound on a new song called “Youth.” Check it out below. Premiered over at Stereogum, “Youth” continues the band’s transformation as previously heard on “Neurotic,” the first song released from Hundredth’s upcoming fourth album, RARE. RARE is out on June 16 from Hopeless Records. Last year, Hundredth vocalist Chadwick Johnson told AP about the band’s eagerness to jump off from their melodic hardcore basis:

“At this point in all of our lives, I think we wanna do something a little different. We’ve always done that as far as different aspects of the band, like merchandise or branding or any of that stuff, we’ve always done different things that other bands weren’t doing at the time, but they kind of ended up there a little bit after us—not to say that we’re some groundbreaking band that’s changing everything. But it’s just things I’ve noticed along the way that were risky for us to do at first, but they ended up paying off in the end. It’s us doing that with the music, rather than just the other aspects of the band.”

Indeed, both songs now previewed from RARE show Hundredth turning their established sonic character on its head. Listen to “Youth” and let us know what you think about the band’s evolving sound in the comments. Hundredth are playing the 2017 Warped Tour all summer long. Check out those cities and dates after the track.
