Hurricane Sandy forces tour postponements, cancellations; A Rocket To The Moon checks in

Hurricane Sandy continues to wreak havoc on the U.S. east coast, and though we’re feeling it here too with power down for a second day in a row at the AP offices, we’ve been attempting–as technology allows–to reach out to venues and touring artists in the path of the storm to bring you updates on their well-being.

Aside from having to postpone a show with dubstep D.J. Rusko, Marketing Manager Jon Vena of Sayreville, New Jersey’s Starland Ballroom told us on Monday that it was business as usual at Starland, which included an announcement of a January 25 show with Hot Water Music, The Menzingers and La Dispute.

”We hope that our customers and our shore-area colleagues at the Stone Pony, House of Blues, etc. are faring well and that our great regional music scene will be as unaffected as possible by Sandy,” Vena said.

Moving up the coast to New York, A Rocket To The Moon had to cancel an appearance at The Studio at Webster Hall yesterday, but let us know that they are doing okay otherwise and hoped that others were out of harm’s way.

”We’ve been holed up at a hotel in Secaucus, NJ watching [Sandy] wreak havoc outside our window, but so far we haven’t really had any issues other than [Tuesday’s] show and all our press being cancelled,” A Rocket To The Moon drummer Andrew Cook told us on Monday. “Definitely a bummer, but everyone’s safety is most important. We’ve got enough water, snacks, and PB&J to last us another couple days, but hopefully we won’t need to worry about that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been hit hard by the storm. Stay safe out there, and keep in contact with your loved ones to make sure they’re okay!”

At post time, A Rocket To The Moon are in Rhode Island, preparing to play the last show of their current tour.

Farther east, in Connecticut at Toad’s Place, promoter Jack Reich told us that in anticipation of the storm’s damages, Aesop Rock has already cancelled his appearance that was scheduled for next week. He said that they are “all watching the storm,” and preparing for further shows that may have to be postponed.

Artists further inland have faced complications as well. Check out the fan-shot footage below of the power going out due to high winds in the middle of Falling In Reverse’s set at Columbus, OH’s Newport Music Hall on Monday:

Some other artists that have had to cancel and postpone shows because of the weather include: Deftones, Our Last Night, The XX and Andrew WK, among many others.

Has a show you were planning to attend been affected by the weather? Hit us up in the comments and let us know!
