Ian Watkins’ ex found not guilty over indecent images

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins’ ex-girlfriend has been cleared of possessing indecent images of children, after arguing that she was trying to bring Watkins to justice, the Guardian Reports.

Joanne Mkadzelics, 39, denied seven charges of possessing and distributing indecent images of child abuse at Cardiff Crown Court this week. According to BBC, “She claimed she had encouraged the singer—serving 35 years for child sex offenses—to send the images in order to expose his criminality.”

“It’s been me against the world,” Mkadzelics said outside court, “me protecting the kids when everyone else called me a liar, a psycho … how many children could have been saved if they had believed me?”

Earlier in the trial, the prosecution said Mkadzelics received indecent images of children from Watkins during an online conversation in 2011. Police also found a 2008 video on Watkins’ computer showing the singer and Mkadzelics talking about, as the Guardian puts it, “him getting her pregnant so they could have a child to abuse.”

The jury deliberated for more than 14 hours, before clearing her of all seven charges.

Watkins was sent to prison in 2013 for 35 years after being convicted of a number of disturbing child sex offenses, including “attempted rape of a baby.” Last July, he lost an appeal to reduce his sentence.
