Every year, Insane Clown Posse along with thousands of Juggalos gather together for the annual Gathering of the Juggalos, but in September, they're gathering together for a more political cause.
After being declared as a gang by the FBI in their National Gang Threat Assessment report in 2011, Juggalos plan to march in Washington D.C. on September 16 from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Memorial and back to protest the declaration.
This isn't the first time they've made it clear how against the classification they are. In an op-ed written for Time back in October, Violent J wrote about how the government was against Juggalos.
“The discrimination against Juggalos must be seen for the unconstitutional travesty it is,” wrote Violent J.
On the official website for the Juggalo March, they make it clear that you do not have to be a Juggalo to participate in the march.
“This demonstration is about standing up for rights of people who have been profiled, discriminated, and unjustly treated simply for identifiying with a particular music group or genre of music. If you are a patriotic American who believes that freedom and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are damn good things, you are encouraged to be a part of the Juggalo March.”
Insane Clown Posse, Vanilla Ice and 2 Live Crew among others will be performing a free concert after the march in Bristow, VA. However, while Juggalos are typically known for partying and having a good time, the organizers of the march want to make sure that everyone involved knows how serious the march is.
“This is NOT a party, Gathering of the Juggalos, or a frivolous social event. This march is a serious, peaceful public demonstration, organized for one purpose — to deliver a message to the world showing how Juggalos have been unfairly stigmatized and discriminated against simply for identifying as being part of a particular music-based subculture.”
One can keep up with the Juggalo March on their official Twitter. How do you feel about the march? Let us know in the comments!
