Instagram now allows users to add music to stories

Creating a good Instagram story involves more than just posting a picture.

There’s those cool filters, your location, emojis and more to put in your story…well, now, it looks like there’s one more thing to add to the list: music.

Instagram announced the new music feature in a press release by the company yesterday, June 28.

While it’s not exactly new, as people have been adding music to the background of their stories with Spotify, the app is now making it much easier for users to add music to their stories with their new in-app feature.

So, how does it work?

When you go to post your story, you’ll click on the sticker icon where you’ll now see an option for music. Once you click on it, it opens a library of thousands of songs. What’s more? You can search out a song and artist of your choice, or you can look through the selection of songs by choosing the genre, what’s most popular, and what you’re feeling.

Once you select a song, you can preview it to make sure it’s the perfect song for your ‘gram’s story. Then, you can cut up the song by fast-forwarding and rewinding through the song to pick the best part to go with the story.

That’s not the only cool feature that Instagram has unveiled.

If you want to add music to a video you’re about to take, you can do that too! When you open the camera to actually take the video, all you have to do is hit the music tab under the record button, look for a song and the part you want, and then record the video!

After you’re done recording, you’ll have music actually serving as background noise to your video.

Instagram is still adding music, so if you don’t see a band or a song that you want to add to your story, no worries! It might get added over the next couple of weeks.

The music feature on the app is currently only available for IOS, but a version for the  Android will be coming soon.
