It looks like your pleas to bring back Taco Bell's potato menu items worked
Christmas is happening all over again for Taco Bell customers because potatoes are officially making a comeback.
Yes, you read that correctly. After receiving plenty of complaints and pleas over the past few months, Taco Bell is officially bringing back its potato menu items. However, the fast-food chain made the announcement in the most unusual way.

Last summer, Taco Bell customers said goodbye to some staple menu items including the Loaded Grillers, 7-Layer Burrito and all potato items. Although the changes were in efforts to make room for new items and make customers’ experiences as quick and efficient as possible, some still weren’t happy.

Since then, the fast-food chain has tried to make up for the disappearing menu items in a number of different ways. Earlier this month, Taco Bell launched a plant-based meat alternative in select locations across the U.K. and Europe. Although the latest menu item doesn’t fix the potato-shaped holes in customers’ hearts, it does give vegetarians a new meat alternative option.
However, the loss of the potato items is still fresh in customers’ minds.
I wish Taco Bell still had potatoes.

Now, it looks like customers’ pleas and complaints have worked. On Thursday, Taco Bell’s CEO Mark King announced that potatoes are coming back. In the very unusual announcement video, King explained why potatoes were removed from the menu in the first place.
Since the coronavirus pandemic forced Taco Bell to move to drive-thru only service, the company condensed its menu in efforts to help employees dealing with the sudden, and stressful, changes.

Despite all of this, Taco Bell has officially decided to put potatoes back on its menu. Starting Mar. 11, customers will start to see the Spicy Potato Soft Taco and the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes reappear on menus nationwide. Along with this, King also revealed that Taco Bell is going “big” with its vegetarian menu in 2021.

This year, the fast-food chain is partnering with Beyond Meat to develop its first plant-based meat option for its United States menu. The company plans to test the new meat alternative sometime in the next year.
“The return of our beloved potatoes is just the first step in showing our fans the strong continued commitment to vegetarians we are making this year,” Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said. “We have long been a leader in the vegetarian space, but this year, we have more meatless options in store that vegetarians, veggie-curious, and even meat-eaters will love.”
As expected, the announcement has earned a slew of reactions from customers. Along with tweets of joy for the menu item’s return, other customers are now asking for the Mexican Pizza to make a comeback. The fan-favorite menu item was removed last year due to the impact its packaging has on the environment. However, that didn’t stop customers from starting a petition.
