J.K. Rowling may try to put out that she’s supportive of the LGBT community, but she’s shown she clearly has a problem with transgender people.
The Harry Potter author is facing criticism for following “self-professed transphobe” Magdalen Berns on Twitter and supporting anti-trans sentiments.
While following someone on Twitter can be completely harmless in wanting to stay up-to-date about the world around you, Rowling isn’t doing that.
She previously liked a tweet stating transgender women are “men in dresses” which a representative clumsily tried to cover up.
“I’m afraid JK Rowling had a clumsy and middle-aged moment and this is not the first time she has favourited by holding her phone incorrectly.”
Rowling is also following numerous other anti-trans accounts on Twitter which some people have taken notice of. One user scanned through her list of roughly 700 followers and made a detailed list of the accounts.
so the question that you in no way need answered, that you probably weren’t thinking about at all until you saw this tweet, is:
“Is J.K. Rowling a terf?”
I just went through all the accounts she follows — it’s a pretty small list, under 700 — and here’s what I found.

Her views have certainly hurt a number of her fans who are sharing their views online. Take a look below for some of their reactions.
So the author who makes me like reading when i was younger is just a terf…
I love the world she created, i can’t change that, but i don’t want to give her a cent… I guess i’ll have to stop buying merch, but i’ll keep my books.

Spreading and promoting hate speech promotes harm. Doing so when you have the reach and public profile of JK Rowling is degrees of magnitude more harm than most people will inflict by doing the same.

She blocked my eldest, a non-binary transgender person, when they were a kid for calling her out on this. Sad thing, my kid loved those books and our family had made memories around the series. Now they hate it all.
