White has been featured in a few different tracks since releasing his last album, Lazaretto, back in 2014. One prominent track White was featured in was Beyonce's “Don't Hurt Yourself” which White also produced and helped write. That track was was also nominated for “Best Rock Performance” at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February.

White talked about performing with Beyonce in an interview with NPR, saying, “She took just sort of a sketch of a lyrical outline and turned into the most bodacious, vicious, incredible song. I don't even know what you'd classify it as — soul, rock and roll, whatever. “Don't Hurt Yourself” is incredibly intense; I'm so amazed at what she did with it.”

Lazaretto peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in 2014, along with the title track winning a Grammy for “Best Rock Performance.” That album was also nominated for “Best Alternative Music Album.”

In March, White talked about writing new music in an interview with The New Yorker.

“I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor,” White added. “And I want to write like Michael Jackson would write—instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.”

“Battle Cry” was released through his record label, Third Man Records.
