Jamie Lee Curtis is not amused by Fiji Water Girl’s Golden Globes stunt

The Fiji Water Girl might have stole the show at the 76th Golden Globes, but Jamie Lee Curtis was not pleased with the serial photobomber.

The Fiji Water Girl, also known as model/actress Kelleth Cuthbert, was the first official meme of 2019 by posing in photos behind some of the biggest celebrities at the award show. She was definitely striking some iconic looks and became an instant hit to almost everyone, except for the Freaky Friday actress.

After it was said that Jamie Lee Curtis was “in danger of being upstaged” by Cuthbert, the 60-year-old actress couldn’t help but say something on her social media.

“I specifically moved away from the blatant promotions by Fiji and Moet where young women with their trays filled with their wares stood near a designated camera,” Curtis wrote on Instagram. “ I knew why there was a photographer poised there and I moved away as I said out loud that I didn’t want to be doing advertising for either.”

“Clearly this angle shows that I moved from her being behind me and yet from the side it still happens,” Curtis continued. “The sponsors of events need to get permission from people when they get them to take their picture next to products.”

Even though Curtis wasn’t amused with the stunt, the Fiji Water Girl is an iconic meme to kick off the year. Glamour spoke to Cuthbert about what it was like to become internet famous.

“This is something I would go viral for,” Cuthbert says. “I feel like I’ve been photobombing people since I was a kid.”

Even though Curtis believes that the photobombs were a publicity stunt for Fiji, Cuthbert said she often got “trapped” and tried to move out of the way.

“Sometimes you’re caught between a lot of cameras, so there’s a lot of photographers at different angles,” Cuthbert tells Glamour. “You’re just kind of trapped sometimes. See that’s the thing: I feel like I was looking away, but sometimes I was looking so I could move out of the way.”

Even though Curtis makes a good point, it’s undeniable that the photos from the award show are completely hilarious.
