Jared Leto’s ‘Birds Of Prey’ appearance fate settled by Margot Robbie

Birds of Prey is set to release next month on Feb. 7. Until now, there was much speculation as to whether Jared Leto‘s Joker for Suicide Squad would make an appearance. Well now, the star actress playing Harley Quinn Margot Robbie confirmed that the Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman will not be in Birds of Prey.

The plot of Birds of Prey centers around Quinn after her breakup from the Joker and the chapter of her life that follows.

Speaking with Variety, Robbie confirmed that Leto’s Joker will not be in the film, not even as a cameo bit.

Leto’s portrayal of the Joker drew mixed reactions from fans and critics in 2016’s Suicide Squad. However, Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn was widely regarded.

After a leak of some early set photos, speculation started that Leto would at least make an appearance in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Leto even seemed to tease an appearance himself on his Snapchat shown below.

Given the nature of the film, a backstory showing the Harley Quinn and the Joker’s breakup seems appropriate. Now it seems any scene with them is now scrapped.

Warner Brothers making the Jaoquin Phoenix film Joker reportedly angered Leto. Joker did incredibly well. It might be a while before we see Leto don the bright green hair and crazy smile again.

More Birds of Prey

As the release date of Birds Of Prey grows closer, the inspiration for Harley Quinn‘s costume change has come to light along with details of the antihero’s and The Joker‘s failed relationship.

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn brings back actress Margot Robbie. She plays the legendary Harley Quinn. If you’ve seen the trailers for the film, you’ll know her costume has gotten quite the redo.

According to Collider, Quinn has many different outfit changes for the upcoming film. Costume designer Erin Benach had a DIY approach for her ideas and took inspiration from Harley’s personality.

“Behind her story is always something a little bit off from center and a little bit crazy, with the idea being that caution tape may be a place to stay away from, and maybe it’s a way to caution the world against what she might do,” Benach says. “So, we kind of took the idea of that caution tape and tried to repurpose it into a costume.”

“We always wanted to create something that felt like Harley made it herself, so she’s sort of a crafty person in the backroom and she can make stuff herself; you know the shorts that she’s painted and the jacket that she’s put together herself. That’s why we did it like that. It’s fun and a little bit crazy like her.”

The other costumes included a floor-length, blue-sequined jacket paired with pinstripe pants and white boots, which you can get a peek of in the film’s first trailer.

“I think it was a combination of allowing myself to look at it and then also sort of keeping myself away because I really want to create something new but inspired by [the comics],” Benach states about the costume designs. “We started with those characters and all their looks and I was able to kind of see what had been done over the different versions of the comics over the years.”

Regarding her character’s relationship with the Joker, Robbie says that their breakup wasn’t smooth sailing. When it comes to the Joker, what is?

“She’s trying to own it. That felt like a real way to deal with a break-up, it’s not clean and easy to be a strong woman,” she tells Empire. “It’s so hard. She’s a bit more Courtney Love than Debbie Harry this time. She says, ‘I’m single, I don’t need him, f*** that guy.’ But if the Joker were to text her, ‘You up?’ she’d run. She’d fall to pieces.”
