Jimmy Eat World announce 2020 tour with the Front Bottoms

Jimmy Eat World are gearing up for an epic summer run under the Criminal Energy tour. Taken from a track title off the band’s latest release Surviving, the tour will kick off Aug. 6 in Atlanta and wrap up in Phoenix Sept. 5.

The Front Bottoms will join the band on the run with Turnover and Joyce Manor appearing as support on select dates.

Jimmy Eat World released their latest album Surviving in October 2019. Ten albums in and the emo outfit are still remaining true to themselves.

“All of our albums are like time capsules of what’s going on…in between albums, really.” Jimmy Eat World Jim Adkins tells AltPress. “For the last couple [of] years, I got really into the idea of what’s preventing me from really living. It’s not natural to question everything we’re doing. For some reason, I think we’re much more likely to try to rationalize and justify our unhappiness instead of looking at what might be behind that and [taking] action. Like I say in one of the songs, it’s the difference between surviving and really living. [You tell yourself], “Anything is better than this, but I don’t want to do anything because it’s too scary. I don’t like who I am, but at least here I know what I have. If I leave here, what’s going to happen?” It’s a really strange trick your ego, for lack of a better word, plays on you.”

The band have highlighted four tracks off the album, beginning with “All the Way (Stay).” Since then, they’ve focused in on “Love Never,” “555” and tour namesake “Criminal Energy.”

The Front Bottoms dropped most recent album Going Grey in 2017, following it up with Manchester Orchestra collab “Allentown” in 2018. Since then, the band released a single “Camouflage” in late 2019 and are currently in the studio working on their next album expected later this year. They’re heading out on a headlining tour ahead of the Jimmy Eat World run, and you can see a full list of dates here.
