System Of A Down drummer slams “cancel culture” after bad store review

Dolmayan has shared some controversial comments in the past. Over the summer, he spoke out against the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement.

In June, he said that defunding the police is “the stupidest thing” he’s ever heard. Then, in July, he revealed that he believes the whole BLM movement is a “propaganda tool.”

“The supposed black lives matter movement never had legitimacy in my view and were always a Democratic Party fundraiser and propaganda tool,” he said on Instagram.

As well, he previously called Donald Trump “the most attacked president in history yet the greatest friend in minorities.”

Now, Dolmayan is voicing his opinion on cancel culture. Earlier this week, a customer left a bad review on Torpedo Comics’ Facebook page. Torpedo Comics is the comic book store he owns in Las Vegas. The comment seems to reference Dolmayan’s past comments and urges customers to take their business elsewhere.

“Torpedo Comics is owned by a fascist sympathizer who pedals in racist conspiracy theories,” the review says. “If you care about Black lives, women’s choice, and actually fighting racism and fascism please do not buy from this store.”

As expected, the drummer took issue with the review that has now been removed and decided to share his own thoughts. Dolmayan first shares that the bad review falsely attacks the employees at Torpedo Comics. As well, he argues that the customer is actually the one projecting fascism and cancel culture.

“What ‘Jeff’ fails to understand is that the tactics he’s employing including cancel culture and shaming based on a false moral high ground. [They] are simply fascist tactics being employed by someone who doesn’t understand or care that I have over 20 employees of all genders, political affiliations, sexual orientations, races etc. And that they choose to work for me because they are free to be whoever they want.”

Dolmayan also says that he is known for expressing his opinions. He also mentions the difference of views the System Of A Down members all have. His right-wing political views have publically put him at odds with System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian.

“Of course I do myself no favors expressing my opinions on social media,” he says. “But it is my opinion that it’s important to have differing views especially when you consider the band I’m in. And how polarizing some of our messages were though they didn’t necessarily represent the opinions of all of us all the time. My company is called Torpedo Comics and we welcome all of you irrespective of your politics.”
