Johnny Depp is reportedly in talks to star in Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice 2'

For obvious reasons, 2020 was definitely an unexpected year for Johnny Depp.

However, it looks like it may not be too long until we see Depp back on-screen again. According to reports, Depp is in talks to star in Tim Burton‘s sequel to Beetlejuice.

Back in November, Warner Bros. asked Johnny Depp to step down from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Shortly after, rumors swirled that Mads Mikkelsen would be replacing Depp, speculation that ended up being true. As it turns out, however, Depp was still paid for Fantastic Beasts 3 despite reportedly filming only one scene.

Now, it looks like we may see Depp star in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2. Back in 2014, the sequel to the beloved classic was confirmed. However, since then, not a whole lot of information has been released.

In 2019, Burton told USA Today that “nothing” was happening with the sequel so far. Then, back in October 2020, Warner Bros., via the International Business Times, said that the project wasn’t in active development.

Now, it looks like plans for Beetlejuice 2 may finally be underway. According to Style Magazine, Burton is considering Depp for a role in the sequel. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time. As well, it is unknown if Depp is being considered for the role of Beetlejuice or a new role in the film.

Back in 2014, Michael Keaton told MTV that reprising his role as Beetlejuice is “the one thing” that he’d like to do again. As well, Burton previously assured fans that Winona Ryder is also open to reprising her role in the film. Ryder further confirmed the sequel news during a 2015 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

Along with Beetlejuice 2, Burton and Depp may be teaming up for another project. Back in December, it was confirmed that Burton is officially adapting an Addams Family reboot for television. Shortly after, rumors emerged that Depp may star as Gomez Addams in the upcoming project. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.

According to Deadline, sources say that the new series will be set in present times as the Addams Family deals with modern life. As well, the television show will reportedly be told exclusively through the perspective of Wednesday Addams.

Naturally, there are a lot of reactions to the rumors Johnny Depp may appear in Beetlejuice 2. For many fans, all they want is to see Depp and Ryder reunite on-screen.
