Joaquin Phoenix's Joker spinoff gets title, release date

Joaquin Phoenix’s spinoff about the Joker now has a title and release date.

As previously reported, Phoenix will play the Batman nemesis, following the footsteps of Jared Leto, Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson.

The new film will reportedly be darker than previous DC releases. According to Vulture, itwill present the “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Now, Consequence Of Sound reports that the origin movie has a name. The film is called Joker, and it will hit theaters on October 4, 2019.

Todd Phillips (The Hangover) will direct the film, with Martin Scorsese attached as an executive producer.

This is not the only Joker movie in the worksJared Leto is set to star in and executive produce a standalone movie about his Suicide Squad character. Details about the plot and release dates are still unknown.
