Burger King gives free food to Bronx residents over ‘Joker’ stairs tourists

Step aside sassy Wendy’s because Burger King continues to prove they are supreme on social media. The burger joint is not only rewarding patient Bronx NYC residents due to the Joker film, but they also roasted McDonald’s in the process.

Burger King is giving free Whoppers to Bronx residents due to the influx of tourism. The tourism is due to an iconic scene and meme form Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker.

Joker released in October of 2019 and quickly took off, even though it was swarmed with controversy. It was a massive hit with Jaoquin Phoenix snagging a Golden Globe already for the flick.

Even before the release of the movie, an iconic image took off on social media. It spawned memes and jokes galore. We’re sure you know which one we’re talking about but for confirmation, look below.

In a YouTube video, Burger King addressed Bronx residents about the influx of tourists.

“Dear Bronx, we know clowns can be annoying,” the video starts as it shows the King dancing on the stairs. “But don’t worry. If you live in the Bronx, use the code KINGSTAIRS on Uber Eats to get a free Whopper. And put on a happy face.”

We know clowns can be annoying is clearly a shot at Burger King’s main rival, McDonald’s. Their mascot is Ronald McDonald the clown.

More Joker

Aside from winning him a Golden Globe, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is also making a ton of money.

The DC Comics-themed flick passed the Marvel film Deadpool 2 as the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.

Joker opened in theaters in October and has been rocking it ever since. Joker has grossed over $1 billion. That makes it the only R-rated movie to ever gross that much. Deadpool 2 earned $785 million. So, the Clown Prince of Crime blew passed the Merc with a Mouth. The sky is the limit for the film.

Given its modest budget, Joker is also projected to make $500 million in profit. This would put it in the likes of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgamewhich is now the highest-grossing movie of all time.

Joker can thank Deadpool however, as Deadpool showed that R-rated superhero films could thrive.

Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds congratulated Joker with the perfect tweet.

“R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren’t like the ones you’re used to…,” the actor shared. With it was an image of Joaquin Phoenix dancing down the now-famous steps as it reads “you motherf*cker.”

At the bottom, the sentiment is signed by Deadpool, Neo, Pennywise, Jesus, Hugh Jackman, The Wolfpack, Mr. Grey. The callouts make reference to other high-grossing R-rated films Joker has passed up including The Matrix ReloadedItThe Passion Of The ChristLoganThe Hangover and Fifty Shades Of Grey.
