Josh Dun’s latest drum cover is a nod to Debby Ryan’s Disney past

It looks like twenty one pilots Josh Dun is back at it with another drum cover this week.

This time around, however, Dun is paying tribute to Debby Ryan‘s Disney Channel past on The Suite Life On Deck.

Over the past few months, Josh Dun has unveiled plenty of entertaining drum covers online. Back in November, he teamed up again with drummer Matt McGuire of the Chainsmokers for the ultimate performance. Together, the drumming duo performed a mashup of Linkin Park and Jay-Z’s “Jigga What/Faint,” Paramore‘s “That’s What You Get” and Foo Fighters‘ “Best Of You” among others.

Now, Dun is showing yet another side of his drumming. This week, the twenty one pilots drummer shared an unexpected cover on TikTok. For the cover, he took on the catchy theme song to The Suite Life On Deck, the Disney show that starred his wife Debby Ryan.

Along with giving a nod to Ryan’s Disney past, he also pokes fun at the vows he gave when the couple secretly got married last year. In May 2020, Dun and Ryan finally confirmed they tied the knot and showed off some beautiful photos from their special day.

Dun’s latest drum cover arrives amid speculation a new twenty one pilots era is about to begin. Earlier this month, twenty one pilots updated the header image on their social media platforms. Tyler Joseph and Dun can be seen amidst an orange haze while looking upon a large building. Some fans are convinced this image is a hint at twenty one pilots’ next era.

As we know, twenty one pilots associate one strong color with each of their albums. 2015’s Blurryface is associated with red while the Trench era is known for its distinct yellow. Seeing as the new image is orange, a color that twenty one pilots haven’t used before, fans think this may be a clue about their new music.

Similarly, fans have also noticed that if you combine the duo’s past two era colors – red and yellow – you get orange. This detail is leading to some theories that twenty one pilots’ new music will be a combination of both Trench and Blurryface.

Over the course of 2020, twenty one pilots shared quite a few details regarding their next album. In May, Joseph told Zane Lowe that the duo has pushed up their album plans amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m writing a record right now,” Joseph said at the time. “I’m not sure when it’ll be released. But it’s definitely going to be sooner than we were planning on releasing a record.”

More recently, Joseph gave an update in mid-November with a brief video on his Instagram Story where he shared a simple, “I’m working on the album.” No specific release timeline or details have been revealed just yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing their own.

As fans continue to theorize when new music may arrive, twenty one pilots are remaining cryptic with their 2021 music plans. For now, if you’re looking for some Disney nostalgia courtesy of Debby Ryan, Suite Life On Deck is available to stream on Disney+.
