It was reported last fall that instead of trying to overhaul something dear from our childhood in 2016, the new movie will step away from the reboot trend and be a sequel to the original '90s classic.

Dwayne Johnson admitted that “for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story.”

From The Rock’s latest post, he says: “This CHRISTMAS the hottest game of the holiday season isn't one you play… it's one that plays YOU.” And we’re already stoked.

Jumanji's ending seemed to suggest a sequel. However, in the 20-plus years since its premiere, only Zathura: A Space Adventure has been released as a “spiritual sequel” in 2005, marketed with the tagline “from the world of Jumanji.”
