Killswitch Engage reveal they wrote too many songs for new album, share update

Killswitch Engage fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the forthcoming new album, set to be released this fall. Now, bassist Mike D’antonio and guitarist Joel Stroetzel have provided a little more insight as to what we can expect from KSE and the new album.

At the end of last year, frontman Jesse Leach revealed he had officially finished vocals on the follow-up to the band’s 2016 album, Incarnate. While the band did not give an official date for the release at that time, fans have been eagerly awaiting any news on when we could expect the new record.

Back in December, Leach shared that the new album still had more “mixing, editing and arranging,” and while they still have some things to do, he noted that he was officially finished vocals on the band’s follow-up record.

After what felt like an eternity of waiting on the edge of our seats, the band took to Instagram last month to reveal that the new album would be out this fall.

During an interview with The Edge at Welcome To Rockville earlier this month, D’antonio revealed in an interview that the album had finally been mastered.

“We finished recording, finally, we finished mastering, finally, for the new record, so it’s going to be out in the fall,” he says.

In a separate interview with Wired In The Empire, the bassist share that the band had actually recorded too many songs.

“We actually recorded too many songs. It kind of threw Jesse for a bit of a loop. We had, like, 22, 21 songs that we actually completed all the music for except for vocals, and then it was time to sit down and do it, and it, like, fried his brain. It took a little while longer to write the record and finish the record. I think we did, like, maybe 17 tunes with vocals, and there are still a few left over that we’re going to save for a little bit later. The record’s not going to have that many, for sure. We’ll have some extras to play with and figure out something to do. We’ve narrowed down the track listing; we are mixing now, and all systems [are] go to get it out for 2019.”

Joel Stroetzel also spoke to Rocked about some special guests on the forthcoming album, including Howard Jones.

“We’ve maintained contact with Howard over the years, he’s always been a great friend. We ended up running into him in London. We were over there opening for Iron Maiden last summer and Howard was there getting ready to start a tour and he came and sang “End Of Heartache’ with us, we’re all hanging out and were like ‘hey man, you should sing on the new record.'”
