Korn's guitarist says fans will be "pleasantly surprised" with the new album

Korn fans have been waiting for quite some time on the band’s new album, and while there’s been no shortage of information regarding the new release, we’re still waiting to get our first glimpse of what that music will sound like.

While we’re not entirely sure what to expect from the band’s thirteenth studio album, one thing is certain: they’ve got some pretty interesting tricks up their sleeves.

In a new interview with Consequence Of Sound, Korn’s guitarist Brian “Head” Welch sat down with the source to share some details of their follow-up to 2016’s the Serenity Of Suffering.

According to the interview, the band still has a ways to go when talking about the completion of the album, where he explained that they still have a lot of the instrumentals left to finish:

“At this time, guitars aren’t finished, and I don’t know if we’re done writing. We’ve written a lot, but I’m not sure if we’re done writing yet. Bass is not done. Most of the drums are done on the songs we have, and a little bit of vocals have been worked on.”

While they still have a fair amount of work to be done, he then continued on to say that this album will seemingly be full of surprises, as the group has some “amazing tricks” that should come as a surprise for fans, saying:

“We’ve got some amazing tricks up our sleeves that we haven’t done before, some fun things that the fans are going to be pleasantly surprised by. I know that for a fact.”

Korn’s new album, what we know so far: 

It was recently reported that the band has worked with Goldfinger‘s John Feldmann and blink-182‘s drummer Travis Barker on some new material. According to an interview with Revolver, Welch shared that Korn has been working with the two musicians on some new songs.

“We’re doing it all over. We’ve been to Nashville a few times, we’ve done a lot in L.A. We actually wrote with John Feldmann, too, for the demos. Travis Barker laid the temporary drums for some, and that was cool. We’ve known John Feldmann since ’87 — he was in Electric Love Hogs. So we’re writing with different people. We grabbed [producer] Nick Raskulinecz, and he’s very hands-on and such a fan of music. It’s not a job or a gig to him.”

Korn’s frontman Jonathon Davis recently sat with DOMkast, where he talked about the band’s forthcoming album.

“It’s going great. We’re recording in Nashville, and I’m gonna start working on some stuff when I get home. And when it’s done, it’s done,” Davis said. “It’s not like records in the past. We’re taking our time on this one. And the stuff that I’ve heard that we’re recording is very groove-oriented, it’s very intense. It’s gonna be a good record. I’m really excited to get home and start singing on it.”

When asked what fans can expect from the new album, whether that be a continuation of Korn’s sound or something different, Davis shared that the answer to that will come later:

“We’ll see. Sometimes they write it and then I start fucking with shit and it turns into something different. That’s when I come in and they get all pissed off or they just get scared. I’m, like, ‘See that feeling right there? That’s progress. When you’re feeling comfortable, no. I want you to be scared.’”

While we’re not sure what to expect from the new album just yet, it appears that it might come sometime next year.

Korn’s drummer Ray Luzier recently had to clarify past remarks on the album’s release, where he had to let fans know that no release date for the album has been set, despite past comments.

“Tracking madness!” The drummer shared in the post. “BTW, disregard what I said in the Sabian interview [where the March release date was originally stated] there’s no release date yet kids!”
