Krist Novoselic (Nirvana) to make guest appearance on upcoming Modest Mouse album

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic confirmed, in a recent interview with Spotify, that he recorded bass for one song set to appear on Modest Mouse's long-in-the-works new album.

Novoselic described his contribution as a “pretty edgy, distorted bass riff,” and has apparently been jamming with the indie rockers since as far back as last summer.

Modest Mouse have not released a full-length album since 2007's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, which featured another iconic rocker: ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. No date for the group's upcoming sixth album has been set, although they canceled a tour of Europe earlier this year to focus on recording, with hopes of a 2014 release.

As you may recall, Novoselic reunited with former Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl and touring guitarist Pat Smear to write and record a track with Paul McCartney last winter, billed a “Nirvana reunion” of sorts. The bassist has also been known to occasionally collaborate with Grohl's current band, the Foo Fighters, in addition to a handful of other projects. When not playing music, Novoselic is active in politics and social activism.
