Lady Gaga covers David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails at Las Vegas residency

Last night, Lady Gaga performed an unexpected cover of David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails’ hit “I’m Afraid of Americans” during the first date of her Las Vegas residency.

The singer performed at the MGM Park Theater, kicking off her two-year stay and introducing fans to her new pop odyssey show, Enigma.

Gaga sang the cover from within a round keyboard console while wearing a glowing cyberpunk outfit. The song came shortly after her performance of “Government Hooker,” tying together the political connotations.

The epic 20-song setlist included the cover towards the back end, before ending with Gaga’s first public performance of A Star is Born‘s “Shallow.” The stripped down execution was similar to that of the film, performed in casual attire at the piano.

“For a really long time, I felt so misunderstood — [critics] thought the way I dress, the way I talk, my attire, was shallow,” she said. “But this shit is deep as fuck.”

According to Yahoo!, Foo FightersDave Grohl was in attendance as well as Katy Perry, Adam Lambert and Avengers‘ star Jeremy Renner.
