Leap Motion deemed the "most important new technology since the smart phone"

MIT's Technology Review are already calling Leap Motion, a small $70 device that plugs into any computer, the “most important new technology since the smart phone.”

The device creates a 3D touch modality in the immediate space in front of the monitor. Unlike touchscreen technology, Leap Motion requires no friction to function. It can register control via fingers (one or all ten at once), a pen and other small objects. This could revolutionize the way we interact with our devices. “Imagine something that combines the intuitiveness of that experience with the possibility of such fine-grained control that you could do away with the trackpad or mouse entirely,” said Technology Review.

With hints at a dedicated Leap Motion app store, the technology's potential for developers and users alike is something to keep an eye on. The Verge recently shot a video to demonstrate its fundamentals, as seen below.
