‘Space Jam’ fans have a lot to say on LeBron James’ Tune Squad jersey

After much anticipation, LeBron James has finally unveiled the new Tune Squad jersey for the forthcoming film Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Since the uniform’s reveal earlier this week, however, Space Jam fans have been divided over whether or not the sequel should have kept the original jersey’s design.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on July 16, 2021. Alongside James, Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Kyle Kuzma, Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike all have unspecified roles in the new film.

For James, he previously shared that the reboot is much more than just another Looney Tunes film about basketball.

“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” James told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams.”

Finally, on Monday, Space Jam fans got the first look into the forthcoming sequel with the new Tune Squad jerseys. The redesigned uniforms are now bright blue and feature a big bullseye on the side. The revamped jerseys are definitely different from the rather simple Tune Squad uniforms in the original 1996 film starring Michael Jordan.

Since the uniforms’ unveiling, opinions have been split. While some preferred the simplicity of the original 1996 uniforms, others hate the new design altogether.
