AP talked to Ewing back in 2010 about what got him started in art, along with his book, Don’t Hold Your Breath: Nothing New From Brian Ewing.
“I always wanted to be an artist. I think everybody wants to do something like art; they just don’t know how to pursue it. I just kept at it until it eventually led to something. I had friends in bands when I was growing up. I couldn’t play to save my life and I’m left-handed. Plus, I was really shy. So all that stuff pretty much worked against me as far as being in a band. So the next best thing for me would be drawing. I just kind of made my own job up. There’s no real employment agency or anything to do rock posters. I realized I could get free booze and tickets to shows by doing it for my friends’ bands. It dawned on me that I should do it more, so I just kept at it, talking to more and more people as I was going,” said Ewing about what got him started in art.
Ewing hasn't slowed down either as the list of artists he's done work for grows and grows. He also has a permanent collection at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH and at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, NV.
He's also recently been doing more tattoos as he's shown off on his Instagram. Check out some of our favorites below!
But on National Star Wars Day, Ewing has blown our minds again with these two limited edition Star Wars prints.
“Last month I was commissioned by my homies Travis and Jenny Lykins to design a wedding poster for them. And they gave me their blessing to rework the design to release as an art print for May 4th,” wrote Ewing on his official newsletter. You can check out the original wedding poster below.
“I don’t normally have more than one figure in a composition. It’s a lot more work if I do. But I think this turned out great on its own without the photo overlay.”
“The Kiss” costs $40 and is limited to 75, while “The Kiss” Foil is $85 and is limited to only 15. Check them out below!
