Leonardo DiCaprio fights to survive in intense new trailer for 'The Revenant'

Alejandro González Iñárritu looks to be gunning for Best Picture and/or Best Director Oscar number two as he follows up last year's Birdman with The Revenant, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy and is set to initially hit theaters this December. Furthermore, based on the film's new trailer, DiCaprio might have a shot at finally beating that Best Actor snub he's been plagued by since his first nomination a decade ago for The Aviator.

The trailer for The Revenant, which is based on true events and adapted from Michael Punke's 2003 novel of the same name, features little to no distinguishable dialogue but is filled with intensity as DiCaprio and Hardy fight for their lives. The film's synopsis explains that The Revenant follows “the frontiersman, Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), who in the 1820s set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.” A brief glimpse of that bear attack is in the trailer as well.
