Lil Uzi Vert finishes album amid music departure claims

We just can’t keep up with Lil Uzi Vert. Sometimes, he says he’s done with music for good, while other times he’s putting out new music like it never even happened.

To backtrack, in January, the XO tour Llif3 rapper previously announced he was done with music for good and he had deleted everything, including his highly-anticipated sophomore album.

Some believe it was nothing more than a publicity stunt to promote his forthcoming album. Others believe he really did scarp the entire thing and starting over.

The rapper said it was due to issues with his label. In January, he took to social media to express his frustrations on the delay of his upcoming album, Eternal Atake.

“You think I don’t wanna drop music? You just gotta understand, when people don’t love you, they’ll hold your life if you sign a motherfucking … Hold that shit against you … And that go for the streets too. You ain’t supposed to sign no motherfucking paper in the streets because that’s ratting. How the fuck I even sign this shit as a deal? Motherfucker set myself up. What other way I was suppose to let this shit go? Shit, it be all good at first just like them motherfucking rats. Motherfuckers be right out of jail.”

Fans became even more confused when Vert was announced on the lineup for Rolling Loud festival in Miami. Pretty strange for someone who wanted to go back to being“normal” thanks to problems with his label.

Then, the rapper expressed his frustration about the situation again, saying he was trying to figure it all out.

“I really just want them to respect me. They just gotta respect because like I respect them, that’s the reason why I really went over there,” he adds. “Like normal shit, it’s just a different level in life. Everybody go through the same shit.”

His label, Generation Now, eventually commented on all the drama after staying silent about Uzi’s claims.

Label head DJ Drama commented on an Instagram post by DJ Akademiks, which focused on fans’ pleading for Uzi’s record. Drama had yet to speak on the matter, but tried to set the record straight on the post.

“Uzi should put out EA tomorrow or any day he wants,” Drama’s comment read. “He has me and (co-CEO Don) Cannon’s total support and blessings to drop it.”

Then, after all that drama, he dropped a track called “Free Uzi.” On the song, Uzi raps about apparently owing a lot of money in taxes — $3 million. He also released a video for the song, mostly filmed in what looks like a convinient store.

Then, Rolling Loud festival happened and Lil Uzi Vert took the stage. While performing, he made an announcement about a new album.

“I ain’t gonna lie — the other night, I finished the last song to the album,” he said. “So y’all ready for this motherfucking album?” You can see a clip of ti below.

He didn’t mention Eternal Awake specifically, but he could be talking about it in particular, or an entirely new record.

If he does drop it, Eternal Awake will be the follow-up album to his 2017 Luv Is Rage 2. The album did not have a release date but was set to drop in 2019.
