Next month will mark three years since the tragic passing of Chester Bennington. Since his death, the future of Linkin Park has remained uncertain. However, Mike Shinoda is now revealing that the band have unreleased material featuring Bennington.

During a Twitch stream, Shinoda revealed that Linkin Park have an unreleased song that was recorded during the One More Light session.

As coronavirus quarantine continues, Shinoda has been streaming on Twitch while playing Animal Crossing and more. During these streaming sessions, he has been answering fan questions that range from Linkin Park to his own solo music. Last week, Shinoda opened up about “Friendly Fire,” the unreleased song featuring Bennington.

“There was a song, a One More Light song” Shinoda says. “We mixed more [songs] than [are on] the finished album and we mixed a couple [of] other songs just to see if one of them would make the cut or whatever. [Or] if we could use it for a B-side and it was ‘Friendly Fire.'”

After sharing that the track was co-written by One More Light collaborator Jon Green, Shinoda seemingly teases the fact that Linkin Park haven’t released the unheard track yet.

“I still love that song,” he says. “Is that out somewhere? Did we put ‘Friendly Fire’ out at some point? We didn’t, did we?”

Of course, his comment started a firestorm during his stream. Many fans are asking for the song to be released. However, Shinoda says that fans shouldn’t anticipate to hear it anytime soon.

“You literally are going to have to wait years to hear that song FYI,” Shinoda says.

Fortunately for fans, Bennington’s first band Grey Daze have been keeping his spirit alive by releasing various posthumous material. Grey Daze recently teamed up with Korn guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch for “B12.” Not only does the video feature photos and videos of Bennington, but the track includes his original vocal takes he recorded before his passing in 2017.

As well, Grey Daze have previously released a music video for “Soul Song” which is directed by Chester’s son Jaime Bennington. Back in January, the band also released a re-record of “What’s In The Eye” that features Bennington’s vocals.

Grey Daze’s upcoming album Amends is due out on June 26 and includes various songs with Bennington’s vocal takes that were recorded before his death.

A video of Mike Shinoda’s recent livestream where he talks about “Friendly Fire” is available to watch below.
