The film Love, Simon was released back in 2018. In the film, Simon Spier, a closeted gay high school student, navigates life while being blackmailed by someone looking to out his sexuality. This all happens while he simultaneously falls in love with an anonymous student.

The movie received overwhelmingly positive responses as a coming-of-age film leading to Hulu picking up the title for a spinoff series.

The 2018 film stars Nick Robinson as Simon Spier. Robinson will not reprise his role as Simon onscreen for the Hulu spinoff. However, he is returning as a narrator and producer.

In Love, Victor, the spinoff series stars actor Michael Cimino. The spinoff is not a direct continuation of Love, Simon. However, it does take place within the same universe as the film. It also shows Victor struggling with similar problems Simon dealt with.

In the first official Love, Victor trailer, we meet Victor who has just transferred to Creekwood High School after his family relocates to Texas. As a closeted gay high schooler, Victor is quickly grilled by fellow students about his dating history and is constrained by heterosexual assumptions. The trailer also shows Victor dealing with common problems high schoolers face including making friends, fitting in and much more.

Love, Victor will touch on a number of subjects that were addressed in Love, Simon. From navigating sexuality to dealing with parents that may not be supportive of their loved ones coming out, Love, Victor deals with real-life problems many of us face.

The show also stars Sophia Bush, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Rachel Naomi Hilson, Bebe Wood and many more. 13 Reasons Why‘s Tommy Dorfman also appears in the series and makes a cameo in the trailer.

The 10-episode series will begin streaming on Hulu June 19. The official trailer is available to watch below.

The show was originally proposed to stream on Disney+ but plans ended up changing over creative differences. According to Variety, the series moved to Hulu following Disney’s reluctance to explore issues relating to alcohol consumption and sexual exploration as it contradicts their idea of family-friendly content.
