Will Macaulay Culkin be in the ‘Home Alone’ reboot after all?

Back in August 2019, Disney confirmed that a Home Alone reboot will be heading to Disney+. News about the reboot of the classic holiday film spread quickly online. Many fans of the franchise wondered if the movie’s original star Macaulay Culkin would be returning for the reboot.

Nine months have passed since the reboot was announced and it is now being reported that Culkin may be reprising his role as Kevin McAllister after all.

When news about the new film first broke in August, Culkin took to Twitter to share his ideas on what the reboot would look like if he starred in it.

“This is what an updated Home Alone would actually look like,” Culkin posted on Twitter. He later replied to the tweet with, “Hey @Disney, call me!”

Now, according to a report by The Sun, the original Home Alone star will be making a cameo in the new film for a reported $3 million.

“His cameo is being planned and they’re working out the details,” the source says. “But it’ll cost them nearly £2.5million [approximately $3 million] for the privilege.”

Culkin starred as McAllister in the first two franchise movies, Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992). He also reprised his role in December 2018 for a series of Google Assistant advertisements. The ads feature Culkin recreating some classic scenes from the movie franchise.

Despite all of this, The Sun’s source reveals that getting Culkin on board for the reboot wasn’t easy.

“No Home Alone is complete without the start of the show, Macaulay,” the source shares. “Disney bosses were desperate to get him on board and they’ve opened their wallets in a big way to do so.”

Disney has made no official comment at this time regarding Culkin being cast in the reboot.

The new Dan Mazer-directed Home Alone will star Jojo Rabbit actor Archie Yates. Alongside Yates will be Ellie Kemper (The Office, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious).

The movie will be based around Kemper and Delaney’s characters. As husband and wife, the couple attempt to get a family heirloom back from a kid (Yates) in order to save themselves from financial ruin.

Culkin is still continuing to act on the big screen and on television these days. Back in February, it was announced he will be in season 10 of American Horror Story alongside Billie Lourd, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and more.
