Machine Gun Kelly filmed in Charles Manson’s house for upcoming movie

Machine Gun Kelly has been keeping plenty busy lately between filming movies and ditching material for his fourth album to start fresh.

The rapper recently sat down with Galore to delve into everything he has going on, and it led to some interesting information about his upcoming Netflix film Bird Box.

We learned back in Nov. 2017 that MGK would be joining the cast of the Netflix thriller Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock.

The film also features American Horror Story’s Sarah Paulson and Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic environment, with the synopsis reading:

“When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded. Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock leads an all-star cast that includes Trevante Rhodes, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich in BIRD BOX, a compelling new thriller from Academy Award® winner Susanne Bier.”

The first trailer dropped in Oct. 2018, but unfortunately Kells wasn’t in it for more than a few seconds. However, Netflix did tease fans with a GIF of one of his scenes.

Not much was known about MGK’s role, but thanks to Galore, we’re getting some more insight. He opened up about his character, Felix, and revealed the whole cast shot in Charles Manson’s former house.

“I play a pill popper named Felix who’s out for a ‘delivery’ when the epidemic breaks out. Wild fact about the house we shot in is that Charles Manson used to stay there right before he committed his murders.

“The director [Susanne Bier] made us all—[Sandra Bullock] included—sit in one room together all day until it was time to shoot. It really made us go a little crazy and bonded us at the same time, which is what happens in the film.”

MGK doesn’t clarify where the house is located, but production took place throughout California where the Manson family committed murders.

The Manson family are also associated with staying at the Beach Boys’ Dennis Wilson’s log cabin-style home in the summer of 1968. That same summer, they moved to Spahn Ranch, which was also home to several film sets.

Before that, Wilson allegedly began collaborating with Manson musically, in turn introducing him to the Byrds’ producer Terry Melcher.

Melcher gave Manson the audition, but didn’t sign him to a record deal, which led to Manson attempting to track him down. This leads us to one of the most well-known homes associated with the murders: 10050 Cielo Dr. in Los Angeles.

The family didn’t reside here, but they were lead to believe Melcher still lived here. However, Melcher moved, and the new owner, Rudi Altobelli, leased it to film director Roman Polanski and his wife, actress Sharon Tate.

Polanski was out of town the evening Manson sent his family to kill Melcher. They instead discovered and murdered Tate and her three friends: hairstylist Jay Sebring, producer Wojciech Frykowski and coffee heiress Abigail Folger.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor once owned the home, recording 1994 album The Downward Spiral and filming the “Gave Up” video there.

Reznor later sold the house to Full House creator Jeff Franklin in 1994 who demolished and rebuilt with a new house number.

Again, it’s unclear which of Manson’s homes MGK is referring to in his interview. Either way, the association with Manson gives the upcoming film an added creep factor.

Bird Box isn’t the only film MGK has in the works. He’ll also be appearing in upcoming Captive State, which hits theaters March 29, 2019.

He’s also starring as Tommy Lee in Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt (which is rumored to drop March 22) and Big Time Adolescence with Pete Davidson that’s heading to Sundance in January.

Bird Box hits Netflix Dec. 21, and you can check out the trailer below.
