Watch MGK and blackbear’s action-packed video for “my ex’s best friend”

Earlier this month, Machine Gun Kelly dropped “my ex’s best friend,” his most recent collaboration with blackbear.

Now, the duo have teamed up for an action-packed video for the latest Tickets To My Downfall track.

Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear have collaborated on various songs over the years. In 2012, the duo worked together on “End Of The Road,” off of MGK’s debut full-length Lace Up, and even performed the song live at EST Fest.

Then, in 2017, blackbear dropped his album cybersex. Along with various other collaborations on the LP, the duo teamed up for “e.z.” Both MGK and blackbear are also featured on the Mod Sun track “Shoot ‘Em Down,” off of Mod Sun’s 2015 album Look Up.

Machine Gun Kelly first began teasing a new collab with blackbear back in December 2019. After revealing that his next release is going to be a full-on pop-punk album, MGK hinted about the future collab with blackbear on Instagram.

Then, after much anticipation, the duo unveiled “my ex’s best friend” on Aug. 7. Since then, the single has shot to No.1 on Billboard’s Rock Streaming Songs chart. According to Nielsen Music, the single earned 6.2 million U.S. streams from its release on Aug. 7 to Aug. 13.

“my ex’s best friend” is the first new release to accomplish this feat in nearly four months. twenty one pilots‘ “Level Of Concern” originally held the No.1 spot since April 25. “my ex’s best friend” is the first Rock Streaming Songs No. 1 for both Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear. The latest single is also at the No.7 spot on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart.

Now, Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear have released an action-packed video for “my ex’s best friend.” Before the video’s premiere, MGK and blackbear answered some fan questions about pretty much everything including the new single.

As MGK shares, it took a long time to get the song’s sound right after many failed attempts.

“We recorded this [my ex’s best friend] about a year and a half ago,” Machine Gun Kelly says. “We re-recorded it 18 more times, went through a billion different production[s].”

blackbear goes on to say that he originally tried to mix the single to sound EDM, but MGK wasn’t a fan of it.

MGK, blackbear and Travis Barker are performing “my ex’s best friend” on the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show this Sunday, Aug. 30. MGK is nominated for his first VMA in the Best Alternative category for “Bloody Valentine.”
