“Bloody Valentine” could’ve been called something else if MGK went with this original line

Machine Gun Kelly shared a special behind-the-scenes video for his most recent single and chart-topping trackBloody Valentine” on his Twitter and on his YouTube.

The 10-minute film also gives fans an exclusive look at the first studio session MGK had for his forthcoming album Tickets To My Downfall, the follow-up to Hotel Diablo. He was joined by blink-182‘s Travis Barker for the Dec. 1, 2019 session, who is also producing the record.

Longtime friend and collaborator Mod Sun also helped out with “Bloody Valentine” in the lyrics department. At 3:33 a.m. one evening, MGK and Mod Sun worked through the song and scrapped some words.

“Nah we can beat the whole last cadence– more iconic,” Machine Gun Kelly said.

Beyond this change, Machine Gun Kelly shared his idea for lyrics including, “Bloody massacre tonight.”

“Or just ‘my bloody valentine’ tonight is tight,” Mod Sun replied. The two settled on this final lyric change. On Twitter, Machine Gun Kelly and Barker even laughed at the original lyric set when the song was first released.

Overall, the video shows how the single came together, as well as the time and stress it took to perfect the final product. “I’m just trying to do something that no one’s ever done yet,” Machine Gun Kelly says.

Mod Sun and Machine Gun Kelly celebrated release night by making a circle pit at home.
