Watch MGK and Travis Barker start a ‘Riot!’ with classic Paramore cover

Machine Gun Kelly is staying the busiest man in music during this quarantine. He’s given us content every day from soloing Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” to appearing on the YUNGBLUD show. But there’s one thing that MGK, like the rest of us, just can’t quit—that sweet, nostalgic 2000’s pop-punk.

After riffing Paramore‘s “Misery Business” last week, Machine Gun Kelly has now teamed up with Travis Barker, Omer Fedi and Steve “Baze” Basil for a full cover of the Hayley Williams classic.

It was almost too good to be true at the time. MGK, with his buddy Omer, hanging out and jamming to Paramore. MGK said he was going to learn a new song every day during the coronavirus quarantine.

He gave us a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication,” Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Juice WRLD‘s “Lucid Dreams.” But the greatest was certainly the classic “Misery Business” intro.

Well, MGK knows that you’ve got to give the people what they want. The world was waiting in anticipation when MGK tweeted that he had a Barker cover dropping today.

Well now, MGK, Barker and crew dropped a live music video of them jamming in their separate spaces to the iconic Paramore tune.

The video shows MGK rocking a slick pink guitar with the word “I’m Selling Tickets To My Downfall” penned on the body. Tickets To My Downfall is MGK’s upcoming, Barker-produced pop-punk album. Could this be a cover track on the album? Who knows, but we know it’s good.

It seems this coronavirus quarantine has got everybody getting their creative juices flowing. Earlier in the week, Travis Barker gave his best Tom DeLonge impression and has been constantly drumming up a storm on social media.

It’s odd that the MGK and Travis Barker cover comes out, not too long after Hayley Williams criticized the song. The popular, yet, controversial song’s lyrics have not aged well.

In fact, Paramore decided to stop playing it live in 2018. Earlier in March, Williams commented on the song in a social media post.

In a post to her Instagram story, Williams thanked Spotify for including her recent single “Simmer” on their Women Of Rock playlist. But, she also made note that “Misery Business” was included on there as well.

“SIMMER” is on this playlist. thx @spotify,” Williams says. “but so is ‘Misery Business’. i know it’s one of the band’s biggest songs but it shouldn’t be used to promote anything having to do with female empowerment or solidarity. i’m so proud of Paramore’s career, it’s not about shame. it’s about growth and progression… and though it’ll always be a fan favorite, we don’t need to include it on playlists in 2020.”
