MGK delays song release to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle
Following the death of beloved rapper Nipsey Hussle, Machine Gun Kelly has decided to push back the release of the first single from his forthcoming album.
According to a tweet MGK made earlier this evening, the Cleveland rapper says he pushed the release date back out of respect for Hussle. Additionally, MGK thanks Spotify’s head of urban music, Carl Chery for bringing sensitivity to the matter.

“We were dropping first song off the album Friday, but out of respect for Nip, we’re gonna stay silent this week,” MGK says in a tweet. “Respect to @carlchery for inspiring that action.”

Just nine hours prior, Chery tweeted, “Do NOT try to promote your music in any post paying tribute to Nipsey. Have some fuckin’ sense and some fuckin’ respect!”

The day after Hussle passed, MGK shared a few words regarding Hussle’s influence and growth.
haven’t slept. im just up thinking about how i could feel the energy drain from everything when Nipsey died yesterday. the air felt different. fuck man. i’ll never forget the journey of watching him go from the mixtape circuit to becoming Grammy nominated. he gave me hope. ?rip

On March 31 of this year, Hussle passed away following a shooting in Los Angeles near his clothing store. The murder is believed to have been a targeted attack, according to TMZ. Currently, 29-year-old suspect Eric Holder is in police custody.
In addition to Hussle, two other victims were injured in the attack, but are in stable condition, according to CNN.
Hussle’s murder has since sparked a conversation regarding gun violence and homophobia. According to CBS News, Hussle had plans to meet with officials to discuss gang violence in the city prior to his untimely death.
