Machine Gun Kelly goes grunge with Nirvana tribute in latest riff video

Machine Gun Kelly is still socially distancing himself. This time, it might not be because of coronavirus either. It might be because he smells like teen spirit. That’s right, the newest little riff the musician treated us to is that of Nirvana.

Machine Gun Kelly said he’s “gonna learn one new song every day this week.” It started with “Californication” by Red Hot Chili Peppers. He then sent the scene into a frenzy with Paramore‘s “Misery Business” and late on March 17, he went totally grunge with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana.

It started on March 15, when MGK posted the below video of “Californication” in his Instagram story.

Next on his plate was the 2007 mega-hit “Misery Business.” With this one he had a little help from Omar Fedi. Fedi contributed guitar work on MGK’s latest Hotel Diablo including Lil Skies collab “Burning Memories” and “I Think I’m OKAY.”

Since then, Machine Gun Kelly has teamed back up with Travis Barker to work on upcoming pop-punk LP Tickets To My Downfall. Set to release this summer, YUNGBLUD, Bert McCrackenblackbearYoung Thug and more will appear as guests.

As he continues to show off his influences and favorites in the rock world, the Paramore,Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana revamps are just the most recent of many. The rapper has also given his own take on Foo Fighters (“Everlong”), blink-182 (“What’s My Age Again?”), Linkin Park (“Numb”), Papa Roach (“Last Resort”) and more.

Next, late into the night on March 17, Machine Gun Kelly broke out the Boss DS-1 distortion pedal for the classic “Smells Like Teen Spirit” solo. Check it out below.

Exactly which song Kelly will break out next is up in the air. We’ll find out soon enough.

More Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly just released a fiery new track with Young Thug, RJMrLa and Lil Duke on March 13. The new song is called “Bullets with Names” and shows a return to the rap-oriented roots of which MGK hails.

Now, the multi-talented artist dropped the corresponding music video for the track, and just like the song that inspired it, it goes equally as hard.

“Bullets With Names” is the second music video that Machine Gun Kelly has dropped in as many weeks. On March 5, Machine Gun Kelly dropped his music video for “why are you here” but it wasn’t in the way he probably wanted. Someone leaked the video and instead of attempting to cover it up, MGK shared the link as well.

Next, on March 12, MGK teased the new song in a social media video. The post is pretty on-brand for him. The video showed him smoking and playing the track in the background.

Machine Gun Kelly dropped the song the following morning and fans quickly came to admire the collaboration between the former tour mates in MGK and Young Thug, as well as the addition of RJMrLA and Lil Duke. The Jersey Shore-themed intro and rapid-fire flow put the icing on the cake to an unexpected song from MGK.

The video included concert footage from Kelly and Young Thug’s tour, some skateboarding footage, a bloody Machine Gun Kelly and a whole lot of partying. Check it out below.
