Mandy Moore addresses Ryan Adams relationship, new music

Singer and actress Mandy Moore has opened up about her former relationship with Ryan Adams and shares how their “unhealthy dynamic” halted her career.

Moore was one of multiple women to come forward in a report published by the NY Times with allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse from Adams.

Mandy Moore, who was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016, went on record to share how Adams hindered her professional career and became overly controlling.

“His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time—my entire mid-to-late 20s,” Moore tells Times.

“What you experience with him—the treatment, the destructive, manic sort of back and forth behavior—feels so exclusive. You feel like there’s no way other people have been treated like this.”

Now, in a recent episode of Marc Maron’s “WTF” Podcast, Moore addresses her and Adams’ “unhealthy dynamic” and his toxic dependency that forced her career to be put on hold.

“I was living my life for him. I had no sense of self,” she explains. “I felt like I was drowning. It was so untenable and unsustainable and it was so lonely. I was so sad. I was lonely with him.”

Moore goes on to share how she had to continually turn down bigger opportunities in fear of how Adams would react if she were gone for long periods of time.

“I would do little jobs. It’s not like I completely stopped working. I would do things here or there, but it would become abundantly clear while I was working, things would completely fall apart at home. I couldn’t do my job because there was a constant stream of trying to pay attention to this person who needed me and wouldn’t let me do anything else.”

It looks like Moore is planning on taking back the reigns to her career, telling Maron that she plans to record a new album with her husband during her This Is Us hiatus.

When Maron asks Moore about what we can expect from her future music she replies, “They’re very personal. I mean, I feel like I’ve lived a life in the last 10 years. I have got plenty to say.”

Yesterday, Phoebe Bridgers made a statement after she accused musician Ryan Adams of psychological manipulation and sexual misconduct.

Bridgers addressed the “weird week” she’s had on Twitter.

“Thank you from my whole fucking heart to my friends, my bands, my mom. They all supported and validated me. They told me that what had happened was fucked up and wrong, and that I was right to feel weird about it,” she wrote. “I couldn’t have done this without them.”

She also spoke about Adams’ inner circle and how they need to be held accountable for their role in the alleged abuse.

“Ryan had a network too. Friends, bands, people he worked with. None of them held him accountable,” the statement continues. “They told him, by what they said or by what they didn’t, that what he was doing was okay. They validated him. He couldn’t have done this without them.”

“Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out. If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better,” she concluded.

Bridgers was quoted in The New York Times story which exposed Adams’ behavior. Along with her, Adams’ ex wife Mandy Moore and musician Courtney Jaye also made statements, among other women.

Alongside the many women to spoke to the times was a 20-year-old Ava, who was only 14 at the time Adams began corresponding with her. Now, the FBI is looking into this specific incident of abuse and has made the first move to open a criminal investigation.

In addition, Adams has denied the allegations against him in both the story and on Twitter.
