Marilyn Manson joins ‘American Gods’ season 3 as death metal singer

Marilyn Manson has just been announced as a cast member on the third season of American Gods on Starz

Manson, who’s acting credits include roles on Sons of Anarchy, Salem and upcoming episodes of The New Pope, will fittingly play a musician in the series.

And not just any musicians — the lead singer of a Viking death metal band called Blood Death. His character’s name is Johan Wengren.

The band and Manson’s character are a source of power for Mr. Wednesday in his war with the New Gods. He will feature in four episodes total, according to Deadline

“As a long-time admirer of his estimable talent as an author, artist, musician and actor, it is dope indeed to be working with Mr. Manson in Season 3 of American Gods,” showrunner Chic Eglee said of Manson’s casting. “Bringing his specific energy, wit and boundless enthusiasm for all-things-Neil Gaiman to the role of Johan, a Norse ‘berserker’ in service to Odin, his performance promises to be disturbing, original and uniquely entertaining.”

The third season of the show based on the 2001 novel is set to debut next year.

In other acting news, Manson is set to appear in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation of The Stand. The series is based on the book that was previously adapted back in 1994. Many fans firmly believed he would play the demonic Randall Flagg, but that appears to not be the case.

As it turns out, Alexander Skarsgård will play Flagg in the upcoming adaptation, leaving fans utterly confused about who the hell Manson will be portraying.

Previously, showrunner James Boone confirmed some of the casting for the new series on Instagram. It’s been revealed that James Marsden will play Stu Redman, Amber Heard will be Nadine Cross, Henry Zaga will play Nick Andros and Odessa Young is Frannie Goldsmith.

Along with those cast members, it was revealed that Manson would have a role, which he recently discussed with Revolver. As part of his role, he will cover The Doors track “The End” for the series.

While there was no confirmation as to who Manson was playing, many fans hopes to see him take on the role of Flagg.

Then, it was reported that Skarsgård is preparing for the role of Mr. Randall Flagg, leaving many confused. We’ll just have to wait and see when the full casting is announced.

We first learned about The Stand series last year, and a release date has yet to be announced. We’ll have to wait and for more news about the series, but 10 episodes will air on CBS All Access.

The series’ synopsis reads:

“The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.”
