Marvel Cinematic Universe reveals new name for first three phases

As the moon has its various phases, so too does the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are about to get a collective overhaul (in terms of their name, of course).

Going forward, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the first three phases (including Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Infinity War ahead of Avengers: Endgame) will be hereby known as The Infinity Saga.

This isn’t a new move for the MCU, by any means, but Feige stressed the importance of continually building toward some sort of climax and conclusion with Avengers: Endgame in he latest issue of Empire.

“We wanted to bring to a conclusion a series of movies in a way that had never been done before,” Feige said in reference to the chosen Infinity Saga title. “Harry Potter had an ending because there were only so many books. Lord of the Rings too. But we thought, 22 movies in, wouldn’t it be fun to bring some finality to the storyline?”

Things are definitely coming to an end. Avengers: Endgame will mark the final film in The Infinity Saga, and moviegoers will finally see the nefarious Thanos’s quest to annihilate most of the known universe while utilizing the Infinity Gauntlet come to a close.

It’s clear that the entirety of the Avengers films didn’t center solely on Thanos, of course, but given the name of the Infinity Gauntlet and the massive scale the story has taken on over the last couple of films, it certainly seems like a fitting name.

We don’t have much longer to wait until Avengers: Endgame comes crashing into a theater near you.

It’s set to debut on April 26, which really isn’t that far away, after all.
