Marvel writer reveals dead characters will not be rebooted anytime soon

Brace yourselves, Marvel fans. While we find ourselves holding on to that small sliver of hope that our favorite MCU characters will see a reboot after their untimely demise, Marvel writer Christopher Markus is here to inform us that the MCU simply doesn’t work that way.

Our hearts weren’t ready for this.

***Warning: Avengers: Endgame spoilers below!***

The MCU has seen its fair share of casualties, especially following the end of Avengers: Endgame. Vision, Black Widow and Tony Stark are just a few of the numerous deaths we’ve seen throughout the franchise so far.

If you’re hoping for a Sony/Spider-Man moment where we see some of our favorites get a reboot with a fresh face, you’re out of luck.

Speaking to Empire, Markus revealed why a reboot for dead MCU characters will not be happening anytime soon.

“It’s the nature of the MCU,” Markus explains. “It’s not a place where you can reboot one and suddenly Iron Man is 15 years old and everyone else is still the same age. The characters have to pass out, and the universe has to still stand. So if you’re going to take people off the board, they’ve got to go for real. Granted, these are movies. I understand that somebody has made some kind of announcement that has the word ‘Vision’ in it, so I mean…”

The announcement Markus is referring to is the allegedly WandaVision show coming to Disney+, despite the fact that Vision is currently dead.

However, Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen revealed the show would be taking place in the 1950s. How that’s going to happen exactly, we’re not entirely sure.

There’s still a small glimmer of hope that perhaps some of these characters could come back. Leaked photos from the set of the forthcoming Black Widow movie has sparked fan theories that an Infinity Stone could be used to resurrect the dead superhero.

Falcon was also given Captain America’s shield at the end of the most recent Avengers film, suggesting that we could see a new Captain America.

How do you feel about Marvel choosing not to reboot dead characters? Sound off in the comments below!
