Mastodon2017

Mastodon channel their nostalgic proggy sound with latest single—listen

We've already heard the first two singles from Mastodon's upcoming project, Emperor Of The Sand, which will be released on March 31.

Now today, Mastodon have debuted their latest single “Andromeda” ahead of the album, and there is something very nostalgic about the track.

While both “Sultan's Curse” and “Show Yourself” picked up from where the band left off on Once More 'Round The Sun, “Andromeda” sounds much more like something you could've heard on Mastodon's 2006 record, Bood Mountain.

Proggy, layered guitars match the precise drum patterns that long time fans of the band will be familiar with, and both Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor share vocal duties on this song.

Considering Dailor has also noted that the concept of time would be a large theme througout Emperor Of The Sand, “Andromeda” embraces it head-on, toting lyrics like, “Time watching as the sand flows through glass. Light calls to me from future and from past.”

Mastodon will be headlining a massive U.S. tour this spring with support from Eagles Of Death Metal and Russian Circles. Dates for the tour can be found below.
